PHOTOPROJECT DRIESTAR INTERNAAT

'Driestar Internaat'

Elke kamer was 12 vierkante meter groot.

Students of Driestar, a Calvinist teacher's training college for primary education (PABO in Dutch), are portrayed in the former boarding school of the college. The boarding school was opened in 1965 and eventually demolished in late 2013. The remaining walls carry the memories of the school's residents. Each room was twelve squared metres in size and the indestructible beds have remained unchanged over fifty years.

One of the most funny excesses was “organ throwing”. A broken organ was thrown out of a window from the highest floor.

Driestar is a household name within the Calvinist community; the college, through the training of teachers, shaped Calvinist education in the Netherlands.

During the photo shoot, the students were asked to think of a personal secret, something that no one knew about them. This resulted in an introverted gaze which, in combination with the background, portrays this calvinistic youth culture.

The photos were shot on Kodak film.
